Post Enumeration Survey for 2026 Population By-Census to Begin in Late August as Data Collection Ends
MACAU, August 17 - Data collection for the 2026 Population By-Census concluded on 15 August, with the initial response rate standing at 91.3%. The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) expresses gratitude to the public, associations, educational institutions and other government departments for their support and cooperation during the data collection period. Households that have yet to complete the questionnaire due to travel or other reasons are kindly urged to provide information via telephone at 8809 8809 at their earliest convenience, following the instructions indicated on the appointment card left at their residences. All households that complete the By-Census survey will automatically be entered into the “Cooperating Households Lucky Draw”, with a chance to win a MOP100 electronic red packet. The draw results will be published on the 2026 Population By-Census website at the end of September.
Post Enumeration Survey to Ensure Data Quality
To ensure the completeness and accuracy of By-Census data, DSEC will conduct the Post Enumeration Survey (PES) from 31 August to 18 September. About 450 households that have completed the questionnaire will be selected for this exercise. DSEC enumerators, who work in pairs, will conduct household visits to verify basic information. DSEC appeals to the selected households for their continued cooperation. Enumerators are identifiable by their navy blue uniforms bearing the DSEC logo, grey work bags and the official 2026 Population By-Census ID badges. To check the identity of enumerators, households may scan the QR code on the notification letter or call 8809 8809.
Preliminary Results to Release at Year-End while Detailed Results to Publish Next Year
Following the completion of the PES, all collected data will undergo rigorous checking, processing, aggregation and analysis. Preliminary results will be released in December this year, covering population size, gender, age structure and district-level distribution of the population. Detailed results are scheduled to be published in the second quarter of 2027.
Accurate demographic data serve as a critical reference source for the SAR Government in formulating public policies and long-term development strategies. DSEC calls on members of the public and all sectors of the community to continue supporting statistical work, thereby upholding the accuracy and credibility of Macao’s statistical data.
