CE to visit Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia

MACAU, August 28 - The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, will lead a delegation of officials of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government and entrepreneurs on an official visit covering Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia, during the period from Saturday (29 August) to 5 September.

The MSAR Government aims through this visit to strengthen Macao’s close ties with Southeast Asian countries, based on existing friendly relations, and to promote practical cooperation across multiple sectors.

The MSAR Government will host reception dinners and roadshows on trade, tourism, and investment in Singapore, Jakarta in Indonesia, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. These events will highlight the successful implementation in Macao of the “One country, two systems” principle and introduce key elements of the Third Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the MSAR (2026-2030), while showcasing new opportunities arising from the deepening integration of Macao and Hengqin. The events will also feature business matchmaking and other activities to foster collaboration.

Mr Sam will meet with state leaders and officials of the three countries, as well as representatives of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with a view to deepening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in areas such as economics and trade, science and technology, culture and tourism, and education. The visit also seeks to elevate Macao’s overall engagement with ASEAN.

In Singapore, the Chief Executive will study best practice in relation to industrial parks, tourism development, urban renewal, and that country’s Housing & Development Board’s public housing programme, with a view to gaining valuable insights for Macao’s ongoing development projects. Mr Sam will also deliver a speech at the National University of Singapore.

In Jakarta, the MSAR Government will launch an exhibition on cultural exchanges between Macao and the Maritime Silk Road civilisations, adding new momentum to cultural cooperation.

In Kuala Lumpur, a higher education promotion event will be held, deepening collaboration in tertiary education and talent development.

The MSAR Government will once again organise the visit on a “joint voyage” basis, bringing together enterprises from Macao, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and the Chinese mainland, in order jointly to explore market opportunities in Southeast Asia. During the visit to the three countries, Mr Sam will also meet with local Chinese community leaders and representatives of local chambers of commerce, to discuss cooperation and strengthen diaspora ties.

Members of the delegation will include: the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Ms Ng Wai Han; the Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office, Ms Chan Kak; and several bureau-level officials.

During the Chief Executive’s absence, the Secretary for Administration and Justice, Mr Wong Sio Chak, will be Acting Chief Executive.
