UTM Partners with Technology Industry to Launch AR Smart Dining Research, Advancing Macao's Tourism-Tech Innovation
MACAU, September 1 - The Macao University of Tourism (UTM) and Xia Ding Technology Co., Ltd. launched an industry-academia-research project to study AI-assisted dining using AR smart glasses and its impact on the service experience. The project responds to the Macao SAR Government’s push to develop smart tourism and cultivate new productive forces. Through augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI), it explores innovative smart-dining scenarios, providing academic underpinning and a practical model for the high-quality development of Macao’s tourism services.
The project uses Rokid AR smart glasses from Hangzhou-based Lingban Technology (Rokid) as its core research device. Together, the research team is developing an AI-enabled interactive digital device and an intelligent service interaction system that departs from traditional dining service models, creating a smarter dining experience suited to Macao’s cultural-tourism settings.
Research and testing take place at UTM Educational Restaurant. The university’s research team leads the user-experience testing, data collection and analysis, and the academic study, and will keep refining the AR system’s service logic, scenario adaptation and interaction workflows. Aside from providing the hardware technology, Xia Ding Technology will jointly prepare a research report and promote the application of AR and AI technologies in Macao’s hotel, food-and-beverage and integrated tourism service sectors.
