Series of promotional initiatives for ‘Study in Macao’ brand launched in Malaysia to attract talent and expand international circle of friends
MACAU, September 4 - To promote the internationalisation of higher education in Macao, continue to deepen educational cooperation with Malaysia, and attract more outstanding global talent to Macao for further study and development, the ‘Study in Macao’ Education Fair, organised by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), was held on 4 September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, drawing more than 1,000 visitors. During the education fair, Sam Hou Fai, the Chief Executive; Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia; Ng Wai Han, Secretary for Economy and Finance; Chan Kak, chief of office to the Chief Executive; Kong Chi Meng, director of the DSEDJ; as well as representatives from local educational organisations, namely Lim Kok Yan, president of The Association of Graduates from Universities and Colleges of China, Malaysia, and Shim Boon Haw, department director at the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia, officiated at the launch ceremony, marking the commencement of a series of promotional initiatives for the ‘Study in Macao’ brand in Malaysia.
Continuing to deepen educational cooperation with Malaysia by launching a series of initiatives to promote the ‘Study in Macao’ brand
In recent years, Macao and Malaysia have implemented diverse educational cooperation projects. To extend and deepen collaboration in the field of education, during the fair and in the presence of Sam Hou Fai and Ouyang Yujing, various Macao higher education institutions and a trade association signed a total of 12 cooperation agreements with local Malaysian universities and educational organisations, covering numerous areas such as faculty and student exchanges, scientific research, and study tours, with the aim of further strengthening educational collaboration between the two territories. Following the signing of these agreements, exchanges and cooperation between the Macao higher education institutions and their Malaysian counterparts are expected to become closer. The DSEDJ will promote the ‘Study in Macao’ brand in Malaysia through a series of publicity initiatives, aiming to advertise the distinctive features of Macao higher education institutions, continuously enhance promotional efforts for studying in Macao and admissions support services, and invite Malaysian educational groups to visit Macao while facilitating exchanges and study tours between the two places. In addition, the DSEDJ and higher education institutions in Macao will strengthen collaboration with principal Malaysian educational organisations, including the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (a key driving force in Chinese-medium education in Malaysia, with a membership of over 60 Chinese independent secondary schools and more than 1,300 Chinese primary schools), and The Association of Graduates from Universities and Colleges of China, Malaysia (which recommends annually nearly 1,000 secondary school graduates for further studies overseas). Through close engagement with the aforementioned cultural and educational bodies, educational exchange initiatives will be jointly promoted, thereby expanding the city’s international circle of friends.
Promoting the ‘Study in Macao’ brand to help international students gain insight into the advantages of higher education in Macao
Nine higher education institutions from Macao — namely the University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic University, Macao University of Tourism, Macau University of Science and Technology, the City University of Macau, the University of Saint Joseph, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, Macau Institute of Management, and Macau Millennium College — all set up exhibition booths at the education fair. A dedicated zone for the Macao‒Hengqin International Education (University) Town was also featured, with the objective of comprehensively strengthening the promotion of the ‘Study in Macao’ brand. At the fair, the Macao higher education institutions also conducted admissions information sessions to introduce their distinctive programme offerings and the multicultural learning environment in Macao, as well as scholarship opportunities and other preferential admission policies intended for international students, enabling Malaysian students and parents to gain a more thorough understanding of the unique advantages and development opportunities offered by ‘Studying in Macao’.
Steadily advancing of the development of the Macao‒Hengqin International Education (University) Town to drive the internationalisation of higher education
With the strong support of the country, Macao’s higher education sector has achieved leapfrog development in both scale and quality, while its international recognition continues to grow. The education fair provided teachers and students in Malaysia with an overview of the Macao‒Hengqin International Education (University) Town, showcasing the strategic planning for the integrated development of education, technology and talent in Macao and Hengqin, as well as achievements made in bringing in high-quality international higher education resources. The exhibition also displayed the fruitful outcomes of Macao higher education institutions in establishing joint academic programmes and deepening research collaboration with international and Mainland universities in the Guangdong‒Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, further consolidating the essence of the ‘Study in Macao’ brand.
Focusing on building a talent pool for diverse industries to support the development of an international hub for high-calibre talent
The Talent Development Committee also had an exhibition space at the fair to introduce the Macao SAR Government’s talent policies to students and universities in Malaysia, with a particular focus on the third round of its talent recruitment programmes, which are designed to precisely align with the needs of the industrial strategy in key areas and attract high-quality talent to Macao, thereby laying a more solid talent foundation for industrial diversification in Macao.
To actively align with the national Outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan and the 15th Five-Year Plan for Educational Development, the DSEDJ will continue to work in tandem with higher education institutions in Macao to fully leverage the institutional advantages of the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle and actively promote the integrated development of education, technology and talent. Driven by the Macao‒Hengqin International Education (University) Town, academic structures are becoming closely aligned with the direction of the ‘1+4’ industries, fully capitalising on the synergistic advantages of Macao and Hengqin. Through the internationalisation of talent cultivation, scientific research and technology exchange, the integration of education, research and industry will be advanced, gradually forming a higher education cluster effect and providing a new pillar for the adequate economic diversification of Macao. While supporting the growth of local talent, proactive efforts are being made to encourage outstanding global professionals to pursue development in Macao, thereby helping the city become an international hub for high-calibre talent.
