Visitor arrivals for August 2026

MACAU, September 18 - Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that number of visitor arrivals increased by 6.1% year-on-year to 4,478,073 in August 2026. Same-day visitors (2,853,011) rose by 11.7% year-on-year while overnight visitors (1,625,062) dropped by 2.4%. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.0 day, with that of overnight visitors (2.3 days) remaining unchanged.

As regards source of visitors, visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 9.3% year-on-year to 3,561,667 in August, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (2,019,744) rising by 12.7%. Visitors from the Taiwan region (101,282) went up by 13.7% year-on-year, while those from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (643,445) dropped by 5.6%.

International visitors totalled 171,679 in August, down by 9.8% year-on-year. Regarding the Southeast Asian markets, visitors from the Philippines (31,282) and Indonesia (11,106) fell by 18.5% and 16.9% respectively, while those from Malaysia (8,161) rose by 2.1%. With respect to the South Asian markets, visitors from India (6,430) dropped by 17.6% year-on-year. For the Northeast Asian markets, visitors from the Republic of Korea (30,738) and Japan (11,464) decreased by 12.6% and 31.1% respectively. As regards long-haul markets, visitors from the USA (11,713) edged down by 0.4% year-on-year.

In the first eight months of 2026, number of visitor arrivals rose by 7.7% year-on-year to 28,964,737; same-day visitors (17,850,599) grew by 13.6% while overnight visitors (11,114,138) dropped by 0.6%. Number of international visitors totalled 1,768,596 in the first eight months, up by 3.4% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the cumulative average length of stay of visitors decreased by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.0 day, with that of overnight visitors (2.3 days) remaining unchanged.
